Kelly Burdette, DVM

Kelly Burdette is a VMRCVM graduate of 1992 and opened Town and Country Veterinary Clinic the summer after graduation. She is now the sole owner of the clinic. The clinic has grown over the past 19 years from a one-doctor practice with 2 employees to a 10-doctor, 24-hour, full-service veterinary hospital that now employs over 50 staff members.

Dr. Burdette has special interests and additional training in soft tissue surgery, ultrasound, and internal medicine. She performs many of the specialized surgeries currently available at the practice. Her time is now divided between working as a small animal veterinarian and as hospital director of Town and Country Veterinary Clinic.

Dr. Burdette was born and raised in Maryland with lots of animals and thanks her Mom, Joyce Burdette, for her deep passion and love of animals. She moved to the New River Valley in 1988 and now resides in Blacksburg with her husband, John Barr, Jr., her five daughters, ages 8 to 14, and many, many pets.

Kristin Carow, DVM

Dr. Kristin Carow is a graduate of Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine.  Like most of the veterinarians at Town and Country who are not native New River Valley, she loved the area so much that she stayed after school.  She is currently one of Town and Country’s three Emergency Veterinarians.

She spends her off time playing soccer, volleyball, and hiking the local trails with her husband Patrick and dog Ciaran.  Currently their household only has children of the four-legged and furry variety, but they are hoping to start a family soon.

Julie Clark, DVM

Dr. Julie Clark joined Town & Country Veterinary Clinic as a full-time Associate Veterinarian in July of 2003.  She is a graduate of The Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine.  She began part-time work in 2006 after the birth of her first daughter, and currently works mostly weekends.  She also manages the 9-doctor schedule at Town and Country.

Julie, originally from Lynchburg, VA, currently lives with her husband, three young daughters, and one pet cat here in Christiansburg.

Angie DeRosa, DVM, MS

Dr. Angie DeRosa has been with TCVC since October of 2010.  She received her veterinary degree from the VA-MD Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech in 2000. Her first two years after graduation were spent earning a Masters Degree in Veterinary Medicine.  She has been practicing small animal medicine only since 2002. The first seven years of her private practice experience were spent working at a small animal practice in White Marsh, MD.  Her practice interests are dermatology and preventative medicine.

"Although I loved my practice family in Maryland, we were not open 24 hours a day.  Even though I would caution pet owners that no one was there at night, I still could not rest well every time I had to leave a sick patient in the hospital overnight.  Now being part of a 24-hour facility, I love being able to tell pet owners that there is always a doctor in the hospital.  I often tell people to call at any time for an update on their pet... even at 2 a.m. if they like!  And, for the first time in 8 years of practice, I can rest well when I have a sick patient in the hospital because I know that they are being monitored around the clock!"

Dr. DeRosa lives in Christiansburg with her husband, Justin, their two small children, and the best dog EVER, JoJo, the pug. She loves spending time with her family, working in her church, and teaching Spanish to junior high and high school students.

Malin Fjallstrom, DVM

Dr. Fjallstrom is a new graduate of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine of 2011 and new to Town and Country Veterinary Clinic. She is originally from Georgia and did her undergraduate work at the University of Georgia.

Dr. R. Lee Pyle is presently Professor Emeritus of Cardiology at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA. He has held academic appointments at the University of Pennsylvania, Colorado State University and Mississippi State University.

Dr. Pyle received his cardiology training at the University of Pennsylvania and has taught cardiology for many years to veterinary students, residents, and practicing veterinarians. He is a member of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Cardiology). Dr. Pyle's research interests include congenital heart diseases, canine pulmonary hypertension, and the use of echocardiograpy to assess cardiac performance and disease.

Amy W. Sanderson, DVM

Dr. Sanderson earned a B.A. in Biology from the University of Virginia, and after pursuing graduate work in microbiology at Virginia Commonwealth University, decided being a veterinarian was for her. She graduated from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, class of 1988.

From there, she and her husband Bill ventured to Gastonia, North Carolina, where she was involved in small animal practice.  The family enjoyed a two-year stint in Belgium as a foreign assignment with Bill's employer.  After several more years in N.C., they returned to Virginia, where she has enjoyed practicing at Town and Country Veterinary Clinic since 2004.  Dr. Sanderson's interests range from general medicine to soft tissue surgery and wound repair, and just doing her best to keep pets happy and healthy.  Outside of the clinic she is likely to be in the garden, hiking the trails, and keeping up with her two children and beloved dog, Pepper.

Nina Templeton, DVM, House Calls

Dr. Nina Templeton, along with her golden retriever Lyle (who took over from his grandmother, Lucy), is Town and Country's house call vet. Dr. Templeton, who used to work in our clinic, explains her job this way: "Several years ago, when I wanted more time at home with my children and several clients had requested that we offer a house call service, Dr. Burdette approached me about being our house call vet. I jumped at the opportunity, and totally enjoy my job! Not only are house calls a convenience for our clients and more comfortable for many of our patients, actually being at my patient's home often allows me insight into a situation not possible in an exam room at the clinic. Unlike many house call vets, who work as solo practitioners, I am extremely fortunate to be part of an excellent full service 24-hour veterinary practice. If my patients need further testing or treatment than I can offer in their home, have an emergency, or if I am not available, our house call clients are already Town and Country clients and their pet's medical record is at Town and Country.".

Dr. Templeton is a graduate of Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg. She enjoys spending time with her two and four legged family members, hiking, gardening, dancing, reading, baking and cooking. Lyle and Dr. Templeton live in Blacksburg with Nina's husband Tom. They have three grown sons, one daughter-in-law so far, no grandkids yet, three grandcats, and one granddog named Cinnamon, who happens to be Lyle's mom and Lucy's daughter.

Originally from the New York area, Dr. Wally has lived and worked in the New River Valley since 2004 and plans to stay.  She lives in Blacksburg with her husband, Stephen, and her daughter, Marin.  They have several pets:  a Briard named Cedar and a collie mix named Luci; a cat named Aggie and a dozen chickens.
